About the model
What this is
The Balance Board Pro lab is an interactive model of the Ocean Waves Surfskate 34″, with a reverse-kingpin front truck and a standard rear truck. Explore the mechanism in the tour or follow a trick in study mode.
One input, the lean
The deck lean φ drives both trucks. The model relates the pivot axis angle α to steering δ and axle tilt β, then uses the axle base and the front and rear steering angles to compute a model estimate of turn radius R.
tan δ = tan α · sin φ
tan β = tan φ / cos α
R = axleBase / (tan δf + tan δr)
Measured values
- Deck

- Layup
- 7 × 1.5 mm maple
- Wheels
- 65 × 41 mm · 78A
- Hanger
- 6.25″ · 159 mm
- Bushings

Estimated and provisional values
- Axle to axle · est.
- 486 mm · photo estimate
- Pivot axis front / rear · est.
- 66° / 50° · photo estimates
The front truck is a reverse-kingpin design; the rear is a standard truck. A standard truck's 45° is the reference.
Provisional: pivot angles and axle positions (photo estimates), axle width, concave, bushing diameter and lean limit. These values still need readings from the physical board.
What the model leaves out
The model runs each pivot axis through the axle centre, while the real pivot sits higher. The bushings are drawn, not modelled.
The ollie
The ollie is a model of time read from a reference video. The study follows BEND KNEES / POP / SLIDE, with controls to pause and examine the motion.
